Did I ever tell you the time when a hippo, a crocodile and a shark became friends? Well, it all happened a year ago near where the Amazon River meets the ocean. But first before we get to that we have to go back even further….
Hippolynne grew up and lived in the hippo community of the Amazon River. When she was younger she was like all of the other hippos. The baby hippos would sing and dance around and no one would think anything of it. But as Hippolynne grew she still would sing and dance around. Her parents became tired of all her foolishness and told her that she must stop her dancing and singing. Hippolynne solemnly agreed but after a few days she began to miss singing and dancing around.
So while all the others were sleeping she would swim down the river and dance and sing the whole night. The only problem with doing this was she would sleep the whole day and soon some hippos became suspicious, and the hippos that became suspicious told the hippo leader, Oliver.
One day as she swam down river another hippo followed her and caught her dancing. The other hippo was Oliver, the leader of the hippo community and he was very angry. He told her that she had to quit her dancing and singing or she'd better leave. Hippolynne wanted to stay with her family but she couldn’t quit dancing and singing because one day she wanted to be on Broadway. So she left the hippo community and swam down river.
Crocobob lived in the crocodile community of the Amazon River. He was just like all of the other crocodiles except for one thing, he was vegetarian. Crocobob was fast and able to catch fish better than any other crocodile, but he just couldn’t eat them. He just felt too bad for the fishes. So instead of eating the fish he would eat the plants at the bottom of the river.
Crocobob was loved by all the fish in the river but all the crocodiles would make fun of him. He had no friends besides the fish and he felt very lonely. Even his parents didn’t understand why he became a vegetarian. Crocobob soon became tired of being left out and packed his bags. That night he said bye to his fish friends and left the crocodile community, swimming down river.
One day Sharkiana and her mom went to the Shark Center which is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The Shark Center is a place where all the Sharks go to get there food. When they arrived at the Shark Center there was no food, they had completely run out. So her mom said that they would need to swim to a nearby reef.
While swimming through the ocean they saw a huge whale. Sharkiana’s mom had always been afraid of whales so she started to swim in the opposite direction back towards the Shark Center. Sharkiana swam as fast as she could trying her hardest to keep up but eventually she couldn’t see her mom or find the Shark Center. So Sharkiana kept swimming farther and farther through the ocean. Not once did she encounter another shark and she began to worry, but soon she saw a tortoise swimming lazily by.
She asked him if he knew where the Shark Center was and he laughed at her. He told her that the Shark Center was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and that they were at the end of the Amazon River. Sharkiana wanted to get back home but knew she wouldn’t be able to find her way so she decided she would settle here and wait for her mom to find her. She was patiently waiting and asking any animal that would come by if they knew where her mom was. Most animals were afraid of her and the animals that were not afraid would grumpily say “No” and swim away. Sharkiana was lonely and hoped that one day she would find her mom or a friend.
Sharkiana started to become tired of asking around for her mom and had decided that she didn’t want to wait around any longer when she saw a hippo swimming down the river. She was curious why a hippo would be so far down river and decided to ask. When she got to the surface of the water she met Hippolynne, who was practicing her dance moves. Sharkiana was impressed with the charismatic hippo and decided to get to know Hippolynne. When she heard Hippolynne’s story she was amazed and told Hippolynne that she would go with her to America to be on Broadway. Hippolynne was excited and so was Sharkiana because they both finally had a friend.
They were starting on their journey when they saw a crocodile eating kelp at the bottom of the ocean floor. They stopped to look at the crocodile who then became mad because he thought that they were laughing at him. He yelled at them for being mean and then swam away. The two girls were shocked at how he reacted and swam after him. When they caught up to him he apologized for how he acted and told them his story. They were amazed at Crocobob and told him to join them on their journey to U.S.A.
It has been a year since these unlikely friends met, and they are on their way to the U.S.A. so Hippolynne can become a performer. These friends are having an amazing journey on their way and they could not be any happier than they are.
