"You may wonder why I refer to Crocobob and Sharkiana almost as if they were on a par with our dogs, Claude, Dune, and Hugo. Well, I consider soft toys to be essential characters in any dog's upbringing — friends and mentors, so to speak. And so, Croco and Sharki came home and we introduced them to our dogs. It was time to do some training.

Interactive toys enable you to engage with your dog in play. Once the toys become favorite items, they can be used very effectively as lures and rewards in training. Many owners know this already, but few fully capitalize on the many very valuable uses of soft toys.

If ever my dogs are too rough, I respond as though the soft toy has been wounded. I encourage and only allow slow, non-contact sniffs and very gentle licks and kisses. I especially like using Paw Pets for this because hand-puppets allow you to feel the pressure of the dog's mouthing and biting so you can give appropriate bite-inhibition feedback to create a soft mouth.

“I hope that someday everyone getting a puppy will invest in one of your Paw Pets so that pups and owners learn to  play with each other in constructive ways with toys instead of destructive ways  that teach puppies to either go after bare hands or become defensive when bare  hands come towards them.”

“Paw Pets are a great training tool to teach your dog rules of engagement. By engaging your dog socially and playfully in a non-aggressive way, you balance obedience work such as the commands “sit”, “stay” “drop” and “leave it”, with playtime. It’s all about social behavior, social leadership and positioning yourself as the leader. Keep the Paw Pet on for play and when you take it off, set it down and don’t let the dog play with it. Teach your dog when play time is, and how to play in appropriate ways.”

"...wonderful pet toys, they are fun and engaging! Get into the action! And in doing so, you're diminishing rough play like tug of war and encouraging them to play with a friend on healthy less aggressive level. The Paw Pets do fit on your hands like a glove puppet."

"If your dog prefers stuffed toys, check out Oakland-based Paw Pets for a fun, interactive product you can enjoy together."

-Bay Woof, Sustainable Shoppers Guide, December 2008

Some of my private client’s dog or shelter dogs that I train have not been taught how to play! One of the ways I break the ice in teaching a reluctant player that playing is fun is by stuffing the Paw Pets mouth (or the pouch for the human hand) with delicious treats.
Then I ask the dog to search for the (easily hidden) toy by repeatedly and cheerfully saying: ‘find it’ and when he does…  he is rewarded by interacting with the toy containing the treats. As the dog gets more and more confident in finding the treat-stuffed Paw Pets he also learns that playing is well, fun!

P.S. Laika my dog and my clients really got into a excellent tug game.  I LOVED the fact that the toy is so sturdy and long!

“I slip mine over my hand for interactive play or throw it for fetch. The toys are super durable, over two-feet long and great for hands-on play with your dog.“ Note: The company founder recently donated over 150 toys to San Francisco Bay Area shelters as a Valentine’s Day surprise.

"I was using the Paw Pet as the puppet for interaction, he [Fonzie] got so excited. He was doing the puppy "gonna get it jump around" dance.  He likes to keep it next to him on the bed. I am glad that Paw Pets are durable because this little guy can play!

Paw Pets can be used for training in a non agressive ways too. By using the Paw Pets you have a tool to teach better behavior. Many commands can be taught with the help of the Paw Pet. I like teaching my little puppy not to bite hands. He can bite the Paw Pet but learns not to bite hands.

"Truly an interactive toy. At first I was concerned about the toy encouraging mouthing behaviors, but really all she is doing is what she would be doing with another stuffed toy without my arm inside. I like the fact that the mouth opens and closes - I can see some potential uses for training as well as play with this toy."

"Nice product! I tried it on a lot of dogs from small breeds to large, puppies to adults, all different breeds. The colors and "animal" characters are fun for the consumer! [although timid at first] Many warmed up to the idea and liked it... Many of the puppies really had a fun time with it. The adult dogs took longer to get use to it.  It would be good to use it as an award for a job well done after obedience or other dog jobs. Thanks for letting me try it. I think the public will like it and I think you will do well!

"Paw Pets are just so cute, tough and really, really fun! It's amazing to see the bright eyes and happy looks on pets faces when you put on a Paw Pet and play. I loved playing with Percy with my hands under my bed comforter, she would chase after my hands and play gently, never biting hard. It was our favorite game and Paw Pets are the same thing... just more fun."

"Our friends just got a new goldendoodle puppy and we gave the green ‘gator to them and her as a puppy warming gift. By all reports the two are quite inseparable. Kia carries it around with her wherever she goes and always sleeps with it nearby. Unlike the destruction she puts on her other toys, she’s careful to preserve the ‘gator."

Hi we just wanted to tell you that we recieved the wonderful donation of the Paw Pets Sharkinia that you sent to us for the rescued little doggies in need. I am sure this is going to help some of them with their socialization skills that they will probably need since some of these poor little babies have gone through so much. Thank you once again for the generous donation. We love you and really appreciate it a lot.

Love,

“These Paw Pets are so cute and certainly practical. Ever tried to play with your puppy or kitten and ended up with scratches and even tears on your fingers, hands and arms? Great gift for the new pet owner!”

Mike Really Loves His Crocobob!
5/5 Stars *****

"So, it was a little scary meeting a Crocobob. Mike wasn't sure what he was all about but once they became friends Mike found out that he is a lot of fun to play with!

He liked to get Crocobob off my arm but then realized that he didn't move and so he would bring him back to me so we could play again.

I hope we get to play again soon. Everyone with a dog should have a Crocobob friend."

"Okay, I normally do not endorse things......but I am going to make an exception in this case.  I found a GREAT toy.  Its called a PAW PET.  Is like a big hand puppet.  My Mom wears it on her hand, and kind of bothers me with it, and then I jump her back.  We Play and Play and PLAY!!!!!  It is so much fun!!!!!!  Sometimes I have a tendency to get a little carried away, so I am also learning new words like ENOUGH, OFF, and DOWN.  But when we are playing, Mom wears it, and even little Sota gets in on the action and can't scratch Moms arms!!!!!  Its a blast.

My Paw Pet, is a Purple shark, I think it is called Sharkiana.  It is about 2 foot long, and CHEWPROOF.  I swear!!!!  I haven't let mom leave it on the floor for Woody yet.  But so far the only thing that has been chewed on is the teeth, and that is okay with me.    We have tried to chew off the tail, the fins, the nose and the rest of it, NO DICE.

Okay, now that I have had my say, I guess I should tell you where to get this.  My friend Leo has a place to get them.  Its a website, called getpawpets.com.  I think he said they are 24.95 but there is a 15% discount for doggyspacers when you put the word "family" in the discount box.  And it seems the toy lasts FOREVER, I have tried to chew it up, and I haven't had any luck.  Sorry, but there isn't a squeaker, unless mom makes the squeaky noise for you......   There is the shark that I have, a Hippo, and a crocoidile. (okay mom can't spell).

I highly recommend this interactive toy.......its a great way to play WITH your owner, and learn new stuff.  Its not a FETCH thing, its a play time thing.

You can contact me or Leo for more information.  And I promise I won't write more posts trying to sell stuff.......but this was just a GREAT toy, I have had it for about 3 months now, and it STILLL LIVES!!!!!!!!

We just got a package with the neatest gift for us to play with.  It is a Crocobob.  Have you ever seen one?  I haven't and neither has Rags.  (Rags said I could write this entry alone but normally he said we will write together.)   Mom took a pic of the Crocobob and she will put it up soon, we hope.  It is a hand puppet that is a toy too.  Dad was playing with me and my Croc last night and it is so much fun.  He didn't even yell when I bite the Croc.  (When I bite him, he makes a very loud noise BOL)  It is a pretty green color and bigger than I am, at least now, BOL.  Well by buddy Tiger and his mom had it sent to us and we both really love it.  Best gift in the world!!!!!!!
